The
digital sector accounts more than 60.000
jobs in Rhône-Alpes, from microelectronics
to on-line services, software development and telecommunications,
making this area the leading pole for industrial
research and development in France - as an example,
70 % of the industrial activity in microelectronics
is located in Rhône-Alpes.
ST Microelectronics for semi-conductors, Atari/Infogrames for publishing and
development of video games, and CAP GEMINI for computing services, as well as
software companies, are all examples of companies set up in the Rhône-Alpes
area which have acquired an international dimension.

More than 800 new companies have been set up in the area over the last ten years, in the fields of microelectronics, optronics, telecommunications, multimedia, advanced software…
To meet the challenge arising from this situation, the Network of Rhône-Alpes
Town Councils, the Regional Council and the State Department for Industry
and Research (DRIRE
and DRRT) decided in March 2000 to found Rhône-Alpes Numérique to promote developments in these fields. |
