Culture
is also an everyday event: 200 professional dance and theatre companies
put on shows in a hundred theatre houses, whereas the scores of films shot
in the area keep alive the memory of the Lumière Brothers, the inventors
of the cinema in 1895 in Lyon. Like the baroque trumpets of Ambronay
and the lyric shows which run throughout the year, the Biennal Exhibition
of Dancing and that of Contemporary Art attract hundreds of thousands of
spectators from all over the world.

Here, every delight is accompanied by a place to discover: the medieval village of Pérouges and its flat cake ('galette'), the wonders of a traditional alpine cuisine by the side of Lake Annecy, the banks of the Loire reflecting the pots and pans of a great family of French chefs, Lyon Old Town classified in the Unesco World Heritage and its cosy restaurants - 'les Bouchons', the roman bridge of Nyons birthplace of AOC olive oil, the ski slopes of Savoie, Haute-Savoie and Isère, where it's so good to warm yourself around a dish of 'raclette'. Each market, from Privas to Grenoble, incites you to stroll, and dally, to sniff the aroma of the local dishes.
