Microelectronics and nanotechnologies

Grenoble is one of the major advanced microelectronic centres in Europe whitch reinforces its network expertise thought collaborations in Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium and the UK. Industry, research and education are concentrated in the same location, important alliance required for the future of electronics. Due to the latter, Grenoble is already witnessing an emergence in projects and with an international dimension as cited below.

Minatec, which is soon to become Europe’s primary center for innovation and expertise in micro and nanotechnologies.
The joint partnership between ST Microelectronics, Philips Semiconductors, Freescale Semiconductors in the Crolles 2 site represents a total investment of € 2.8 billion.

Technological leaders: Atmel, Applied Materials, Dolphin Integration, Hewlett Packard, Photowatt International, Silicomp, Soitec, Sun Microsystems, Synopsys Leda, Thales Electron Devices, Tokyo Electron Ltd, Tronic’s Microsystems and Xenocs are situated in the region.

Targeted fields: materials (silicon, polymers, nano-materials), equipments, microsystems (mechanical integrated components, sensors, actuators, optic, wave guide), embedded systems, applications (Smart Objects, RFID).
